Cyclonic Technology for Efficient Biological Air Monitoring with Bertin Coriolis Air Sampling Solutions
The Bertin Health & Life Sciences air sampling solutions, Coriolis Compact and Coriolis Micro, use innovative wet and dry cyclonic technology to efficiently collect biological particles in the air whatever their nature: Bacteria, viruses, pollen, etc even when microbiological contamination is low.
The Coriolis Compact is a dry cyclonic collector. During the collection process, airborne particulate matter in the ambient air is aspirated into the collection cone via cyclonic action and pulled towards its walls:
- The collection cone is placed on the device and locked
- Aspirated air enters the cone and forms a vortex
- Particles in the air are centrifuged in the cone’s walls
- The collected particles are recovered by rinsing the cone with a suitable liquid
The Coriolis Micro biological air sampler is a wet cyclonic collector which quickly concentrates particle samples in a very short time. The cyclonic technology, paired with a high air flow rate of up to 300 L/min, allows reliable virus collection. With Coriolis Micro, a concentration of only 100 genomes/m3 is detectable in samples collected in the fluid phase.
- A collection cone, pre-filled with suitable sampling fluid, is placed on the biological air sampler.
- Once initiated, Coriolis Micro generates a vortex in the collection cone.
- Particles such as bacteria, viruses, mold, spores, pollen or toxins are centrifuged onto the inner walls of the cone and are separated from the air.
- The collected sample is then ready for the various stages of microbiological analysis
Coriolis μ samples are compatible with all rapid microbiology techniques such as qPCR or microarrays, and also NGS analysis.
