Hudson Robotics develop solutions to automate various processes in the biological, drug discovery and medical fields. Automated robots, laboratory equipment systems, and instruments are developed for streamlined automation of laboratory processes and laboratory workcells.
The Protean™ Workcell is completely flexible and can be configured to house up to 9 levels of instrument space. This allows the system the flexibility to change with laboratory requirements.
The core of the system is a SciClops™ Plus robotic arm, an extended vertical reach robot that provides multi levels of instrument access. Standard configurations of the core also include 5 microplate stacks and a barcode reader. The core can be equipped with an optional Microplate Stacking Carousel Storage System that facilitates robotic access to hundreds of microplates, tip boxes and reservoirs.
Expandable: Create up to 9 levels of instrument space.
The ELISA Workcell is a unique, compact workcell designed to automate ELISAs. The workcell distributes samples from source plates into assay plates and, if needed, can perform serial dilutions on the assay plate. It then transfers all the required reagent solutions to the assay plate and washes the unbound reagents from the plate.
The workcell is modular and can be configured to meet your needs. The SOLO automated pipettor is available with 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 microplate nest positions. Add a PlateCraneEX robotic arm with random access microplate hotels for hours of hands-free processing, including passing plates to your reader.

Hudson’s RapidHit™ Simultaneous Automated HitPicking System is a compact, self-contained system that allows users to obtain assay plates comprised of the actual hits detected in a primary screen using the same compound source plates that provided the primary screen. The RapidHit uses the output files produced by the plate reader as they become available, and automatically selects and transfers “hits” based on user-entered criteria.
As each primary screen assay plate is finished, the RapidHit immediately moves the hits to a secondary assay “hit plate”, and eliminates the possibility of receiving the wrong compounds in secondary screening plates.
The RapidHit saves the need to return to the user’s compound storage library to run secondary or conformational screens of the hits in a primary screen. The hit-picked plates are prepared even while the primary screen is taking place, so the secondary or conformational screen can go forward without any delay. And, because the original source compound plates are being used, the secondary assay uses the same compound conditions as the primary screen. This eliminates any artifacts that may result from preparing secondary assay plates anew from the compound library.
The ProLink Express is a fully automated proteomics workcell that integrates all microplate delivery and transfer operations with complete data tracking. It automates the entire protein expression process, from initial bacterial colony picking through to the final protein expression and measurement. The ProLink Express system can deliver a plate to any of its instruments from any other instrument, in any order and simultaneously with other processes. It can use a wide range of commercially available plasmid miniprep kits.
The ProLink Express integrates an automated colony picker with an incubator and a plasmid DNA miniprep system. A researcher can start with bacterial colony plates, isolate individual colonies into culture plate wells, grow the individual colonies and then extract the DNA plasmids in one seamless automated process without any human intervention. The system also provides the capability to re-attach DNA inserts onto expression vectors and perform in vitro or in vivo protein expression and detection.
Hudson’s new Synthetic Biology Workstation automates the entire portion of the pipeline from Gene Assembly through Plasmid Preparation.
The following functions are automated and integrated into a single, easy to use system:
The software tracks everything from start to finish. DNA is normalized and transformations carried out. Agar is spread on Omni trays and colonies are plated to your specifications.
DNA and RNA Normalization
DNA Transformation into Bacteria
Gene Assembly
Microbiome/Microbiota Research
Next-Gen Sequencing (NGS)
Plasmid Preparation
This small Plasmid Prep workcell supports standard miniprep protocols and includes a SOLO automated pipettor, a FilterPress automated 96 well filter plate positive pressure manifold, and a microplate shaking nest. High throughput can be added by including a PlateCrane robotic arm and microplate hotels. Hudson Robotics designs workcells for both commercially available plasmid miniprep kits as well as proprietary plasmid DNA miniprep protocols.

The extraction system has been designed to run commercial kits that extract DNA, RNA and proteins from a variety of sources including:
Hudson Robotics designs automated DNA extraction and RNA systems around your throughput requirements.
The DNA extraction and RNA extraction workstations greatly simplify the process of isolating pure nucleic acids and/or proteins from a wide variety of natural sources.
This space saving extraction system can be designed for labs with low throughput requirements where plates are manually loaded.
Higher throughput can be achieved using the PlateCrane EX™ or SciClops™ robot arm for hours of hands-off processing time. The workcells can utilize Hudson’s family of liquid handling instruments or 3rd party manufacturers liquid handling instruments or other instruments such as automatable centrifuges.
All instruments in the extraction workstation can be controlled by Hudson’s powerful SoftLinx automation software.
The system can be configured with any one, or all, of your favorite separation methods, including:
The utility of the extraction system can be greatly enhanced by adding additional equipment in range of the robot arm to add direct downstream processing of the purified bio-molecules. Some examples of the potential versatility of combining the extraction system with additional equipment:
