Antec ScientificSweetSep™ Carbohydrate Columns

Perform superior carbohydrate analysis with SweetSep™, offering fast analysis compatible with pH 1-14. Choose SweetSep™ columns from Antec Scientific for the analysis of mono-, oligo- and polysaccharides. Use the link below to discuss your requirements with a member of the Verulam Scientific team.

A New Standard for Carbohydrate Analysis

SweetSep™ is the new line of High-Performance Anion Exchange (HPAE) columns from Antec Scientific. These columns consist of highly monodisperse resin particles, facilitating rapid and effective separation of mono-, oligo- and polysaccharides using PAD or MS detection.

Antec Scientific’s superior SweetSep™ carbohydrate analysis columns are the optimal instrument for analysing a wide range of carbohydrates. Successfully analyse monosaccharides up to larger oligosaccharides such as FOS (fructo-oligosaccharides) and GOS (galacto-oligosaccharides).

Excellent results have been obtained for the structural analysis of protein glycosylation, specifically for N-linked glycans in glycoproteins.

Stationary Phase Materials

There are three stationary phase materials available in the SweetSep™ range; details of each are provided below:

SweetSep™ AEX18

Fast high-resolution analysis of Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) and its by-products 2-chloro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (CDG) and 2-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-mannose (FDM), according to USP and EP, based on the official EP 11.3 and USP-NF 41 (2023) methods.

SweetSep™ AEX20

Rapid, high-resolution separation of monosaccharides is possible from various food samples. This includes monosaccharides derived from glycoproteins, FDG, and Heparin.

FAQs

What Is the Capacity or Volume Limit of Each SweetSep Column?

The exchange capacity for the analytical column of 4.0 mm ID x 20 cm is ca. 90 µeq for AEX 200 and ca. 160 µeq for the AEX20.

Do SweetSep Columns Require Particular Equipment or Instruments?

There are certain instrumental requirements for using SweetSep columns. These include:

  • HPAEC-PAD – SweetSep columns can be used with any High Performance Anion Exchange Chromatography system. A Pulsed Amperometric Detector (PAD), such as the DECADE™ Elite, can be used with several bioinert HPLC systems for HPAEC applications.
  • Borate Ion Trap – Between the pump and autosampler, we highly recommend the use of a Borate Ion Trap (BIT) column.
  • HPAEC-MS – For on-line coupling with MS, a desalter (ion suppressor) may be required, depending on the volatility of the buffer systems employed. Essentially, any (ESI)-MS system can be utilised for detection.
  • HPAEC-PAD/MS – By splitting the flow after the SweetSep column into two streams, parallel detection using PAD and MS allows for the simultaneous quantification and identification of carbohydrates. Before the MS introduction, an in-line desalter (suppressor) removes Na+ ions from the mobile phase.
How Long Does the Cell Separation Process Take With SweetSep Columns?

Using SweetSep columns and a combination of High Performance Anion Exchange Chromatography with Pulsed Amperometric Detection (HPAEC-PAD) can facilitate the separation of all compounds of interest in less than eight minutes.
