Products and SolutionsAre you going to be serving asparagus as your starter for Christmas Day?

If so, you may well find that your Boxing Day is improved…

It has been suggested that asparagus could have a protective effect on liver cells or modulate the effect alcohol has on the body but currently there is little science to back this up and certainly no recommended quantities of asparagus to consume.

However, following a TikTok trend started by #Nutritionist Samantha Cassetty commenting on a 2009 study, there may be many young people about to try this out, meaning a lot of anecdotal evidence will be available after the festive period.

Many bioactive compounds originate in natural products, such as asparagus, with a large research community searching for treatments for diseases as well as chronic use of substances, such as alcohol.

Bio-purification (separating the molecules that have a positive affect from those with negative or neutral affects) can be a lengthy or difficult task. One way in which active compounds can be separated is through chromatography with fraction collection. Once this is developed at the lab scale, production can follow a similar path.

Our colleagues at KNAUER are experts in liquid chromatography from analytical to pilot and process scale. We are available to help you design your #AZURA bio-purification system to meet your needs. Multiple functionalities such as automatic sample injection via autosampler, column switching, buffer and sample selection as well as fraction collection, enable you to automate the purification process.

A range of different detectors let you keep track of your target molecules. A wide flow rate range and compatibility with columns from all vendors offers maximum flexibility.

In the meantime, it may be the first Christmas Day meal where the teenagers are asking for more greens…
