PartnershipsProducts and SolutionsCan we save the Turkey Christmas Dinner?

8 December 2022by verulam

As we approach Christmas, images of the traditional roast dinner, with a large turkey at the centre of the table, are everywhere. Unfortunately, this year we may be struggling to get that traditional turkey as avian flu spreads through the poultry farms of the UK.

Once detected in a flock, measures can be taken to inoculate or control the disease, but with the rapid rate from infection to death in as little as 72 hours, it is generally too late to save the flock.

A study in France last year (2021) using the Bertin Coriolis Compact air sampler showed that the portable unit could be used to detect the virus earlier, and importantly, before the birds started showing symptoms.
