A simple Carbohydrate Analysis could be used to reduce import fraud.

On the 9th November, the Guardian website showed this report about Honey Fraud in the UK (Nine in ten honey samples from UK retailers fail authenticity test | Food | The Guardian) with 9 in 10 samples purchased in the UK failing the testing of an independent laboratory based on a DNA profiling method carried out in Estonia but most honey fraud can be easily detected by a simple analysis of the carbohydrate profile.

The scientists at Antec Scientific have developed a complete solution for carbohydrate analysis. The ALEXYS carbohydrate analyzer uses HPAEC-PAD (High Performance Anion Exchange Chromatography with Pulsed Amperometric Detection).

Why HPAEC-PAD…? It is powerful analytical technique due to its ability to separate all classes of alditols (polyols), amino-sugars, mono-, oligo- and polysaccharides including glycans, according to structural features such as size, composition, anomericity, and linkage isomerism.
HPAEC-PAD coupled with the recently released Antec SweetSep columns for carbohydrates (the new gold standard) and the ET210 helium sparging eluent tray (to eliminate mobile phase pH variance) gives consistent results, ease of use, and THE highest reproducibility. The Antec Scientific ALEXYS™ Analyzer is the best choice.
